Time flies, and space with it. It is amazing to think that Mesarthim’s debut was released ten years ago already, back in 2015 nobody would have thought that an anonymous duo from Australia would be able to create one of the most unpredictable and innovative body of work in underground extreme metal.
Isolate was a pioneering release, not only because of its fresh approach to outer space, but most importantly because of its genre-bending, never-seen-before mix of black metal and electronics. Very few bands tried what Mesarthim did, mixing metal and electronic beats (late Samael and few others come to mind), and even fewer managed to create an organic production for so many years.
To celebrate the first decade of such an important album, Avantgarde Music proudly presents a double-vinyl special edition aptly named Isolate X, which not only includes the original Isolate, but adds a second LP with reworks and reinterpretations from both fellow Avantgarde Music cosmic artists and friends of Mesarthim alike.
Isolate X includes contributions from Mike Lamb and Heike Langhans’ Remina, the newborn Italian black metal band Bianca (featuring members from Hideous Divinity), Australian solo projects Midnight Odyssey and Germ, and the rising cosmic force from Sweden Vrazorth. The first single “Abyss”, now available for streaming worldwide, is a reinterpretation of Mesarthim’s original song through the lens of fellow cosmic black metal pioneer Mare Cognitum.
With a wonderful handpainting by Heike Langhans which reimagines the original NASA photo of the Horsehead Nebula, Isolate X is a perfect change to rediscover Mesarthim’s debut from an unexpected perspective, or experience it for the first time. Isolate X will be out on double vinyl, and LP2 will be available for streaming worldwide, on September 19th, 2025.
